There’s nothing black-and-white about going green

Sustainability packaging

We’re astutely aware of how complicated it is to create fully sustainable packaging. But that doesn’t mean we won’t keep trying.

We believe that all changes – no matter how big or small – can make a lasting, positive impact on our planet.

So while complete sustainability may be complicated, our goal is simple: to educate ourselves so we can empower you to meet your sustainability goals. Without diluting your brand or impacting your bottom line.

Our guiding principles

How we approach Sustainability

How we approach Sustainability

Be genuine

We don’t tolerate greenwashing. Our commitment to sustainability is not a trendy marketing tactic or a smooth corporate strategy. It’s rooted in a genuine desire to help you make tangible changes, and as a result, play our part in protecting our world.

Be honest

We’re not perfect. Far from it. We’re the first to admit that packaging has a huge impact on our planet. Yes, we’ve made a lot of progress. While we’ve got a long way to go, we promise to be fully transparent about our journey, our progress, and our metrics.

Be practical

We focus on concrete improvements that make sense for your product. Sometimes it may be as simple as removing an unnecessary layer of foil. Other times we may suggest redesigning the package from scratch. We explain to you the benefits and limitations of all the options, so you can make an informed decision.

Be educated

We’ve got an entire department devoted to researching, experimenting, and exploring greener options. We stay on top of the latest developments in material science and packaging design, so we can include them into our process. We test alternatives extensively for durability, functionality, and aesthetics. Before we offer it to you.

Be patient

Change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes innovation, partnership and experimentation to reach the levels of change we dream of. We’re committed to constant iteration and improvements as we drive sustainability throughout our value chain.

Big picture thinking means bigger impact

Becoming greener is much more complex than replacing plastic with a recyclable corrugated board. We look at making each project more sustainable, rather than just each package. When we work with you, we look at the whole value chain. Our broad perspective means we recommend meaningful – and often small – changes that give you big wins.

Factors we consider

Materials

The field is sustainable materials is evolving rapidly. We explore how we could use more sustainable materials.

Design

Small tweaks in the design phase can make a real difference. For example, removing an extra layer of foil doesn’t change the final package, but is much more eco-friendly.

Shipping

Shipping both raw materials and the final product produce high carbon emissions. Reducing weight, carton size, and damage help reduce your carbon footprint.

Reusability

When relevant and possible, we design reusable packaging that builds your brand.

Production Process

The manufacturing process can be simplified or tweaked to reduce environmental impact.

A real-life example

Did you know that the carbon footprint of shipping from China can be around half that of trucking from Europe?
