Toy Story

IPL Packaging recently devised a pair of conceptual Sunny Bunnies merchandise packaging samples for California-based licensing partner, Evolution.

Managing a range of brand extensions for this popular children’s TV series, Evolution were exploring merchandise options including children’s apparel, accessories, publishing, toys and food.

Aimed at four- to seven-year-olds, Sunny Bunnies follows five beaming balls of light that cause mischief wherever they go. In each episode, the Sunny Bunnies appear at a different location: a circus, a stadium, a carousel, a park, a stage. They immediately start to investigate their surroundings and that’s when the fun and mischief begins!

This cheery children’s series has become so popular that Sky in the UK and Disney in the US are now amongst several international broadcasters to have picked up the 2nd season of the Belarusian animated series

“We came up with the idea of designing both a two-pack and a one-pack solution for Sunny Bunnies plush toys,” explains IPL Design and Innovation Manager, LB Odendaal. “Both solutions comprise of a die-cut S2S card box complete with full-colour print and, whilst the two-pack version features a PET window, the one-pack version has no window and allows for a tactile on-shelf experience in which children are able to touch and interact with the plush, fuzzy toy within.”

“Brands that target children are aware of the influence of packaging,” says Odendaal. “To attract young consumers, they realise its important to integrate innovation with vivid colours, funny and playful aspects, distinctive shapes and tactility.”

Creating further interest for young consumers, branding on each Sunny Bunnies pack is embossed and features spot UV-varnish as well as spot flocking on graphics depicting a fun outdoor carnival scene. The interior of the two-pack solution features a repeat pattern of varying episode locations whilst the one-pack version features a nighttime carnival scene.
