The Art of Housing Laphroaig

The first in our series exploring the new secondary packaging innovations for Laphroaig.

Building on years of successful collaboration, IPL Packaging produced an exquisite packaging solution for the Laphroaig 30 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky that embodies the brand’s refreshed vision.

While maintaining a seamless connection to Laphroaig’s rich heritage, the simple yet sophisticated design features the evolved wordmark, thoughtful emboss and deboss details, and subtle references to the distillery’s brand identity – all while demonstrating a commitment to both sustainability and tradition.

A Symphony of Natural Materials

• Solid oak forms the left, rear, and base panels, providing both structural integrity and natural elegance. A meticulously laser-engraved Laphroaig logo adorns the side panel, creating a striking visual accent.
• Accessibility meets design in the machined finger notch positioned on the upper panel’s top left corner, allowing for effortless opening.
• Adding structural reinforcement and visual distinction, decorative L-shaped joint strengtheners (in anodised green metal) serve as a reference to the ‘L’ in Laphroaig.

Refined Opening Experience

• The side-opening lid consists of textured, non-coated paper-wrapped MDF in Ice White Pebble paper, creating a tactile contrast with the oak elements, whilst anodised copper barrel hinges along the right side of the box ensure smooth operation.

Interior Elegance

• The interior rear panel is lined in textured green paper card enhanced with a matte varnish finish.
• A precision die-cut recess houses the certificate of authenticity, secured by a complementary dark green band.
• An L-shaped MDF top fitment, wrapped in matching green paper, continues the thematic colour scheme.
• The solid oak inner base features a custom die-cut bottle recess with a wooden dowel bottle locator, ensuring the precious spirit remains perfectly positioned. Four round microfiber feet pads on the outer base provide protection.

The packaging solution represents just the beginning of our exploration into Laphroaig’s new packaging direction. Watch for future features that will delve deeper into how these designs honour and advance the iconic brand’s visual identity.
