Luxe Pack Shanghai highlights innovation, eco and tech advancements

“The number of new suppliers exhibiting at this year’s show was indicative of the increased innovation we’re seeing in the marketplace in terms of elements such as paper finishes, lamination and 3D visual effects,” explains Mark. “’Experience the future of luxury packaging’ was the 2018 theme for the event,” he says, “ a reflection of the consumer demand for high quality finishes, innovative shapes and decorations, digital and connected solutions, and designs that enhance the consumer experience.”

“Though the show was somewhat smaller in size when compared to other Asian expos such as The Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair or The Canton Fair,” says Mark, “the atmosphere at Luxe Pack Shanghai was alive; buzzing with what appeared to be a fairly equal mix of foreign visitors and Chinese industry representatives.”

The 2018 show also introduced, for the first time, training sessions on sustainable development. “This is an encouraging indication of Chinese government support for these initiatives,” says Mark, “but, of course, it also reflects the growing focus on sustainable, eco-conceived packaging solutions and emphasises the seismic shift towards more environmentally conscious consumerism.”

“Highlighting further advancements in artificial intelligence and technology, the organisers also brought back the ‘Tech Hub’ for a second year, allowing visitors to explore and respond to brand new technological packaging solutions and augmented reality, and embrace these as the future of packaging,” he says.
