Last Drop Distillers Packaging Case Study

The Brief

In 2022, IPL Packaging was entrusted with the task of crafting a unique packaging solution for The Last Drop Distillers of London – purveyors of some of the world’s most remarkable spirits. The client’s unwavering commitment to exceptional quality and sustainability demanded a package that would capture the very essence of their endeavour.

The Challenges

1. Incorporating a curved structure inspired by the elegant swell of whisky barrel ‘staves’ and ‘bilges’.
2. Engineering a dual yoke mechanism to suspend the bottle securely and prevent any movement or slippage during transit.
3. Achieving high-quality dovetail joinery for the real oak components, ensuring a flawless finish.
4. Integrating a separate case with precision, blending form and function.
5. Ensuring the overall functionality and protection of this prized product.

The Solution

Main Package Components

• Paper-wrapped rigid board around a solid white oak frame.
• Arced wooden frame inspired by the curvature of a whisky barrel.
• Mortise joint structure for the wood frame and top/bottom fitment.
• Laser/black ink-filled logo on the left and right sides of the wooden frame.
• Top fitment cork trim.

Separate Case

Upon opening the pack one discovered a separate cream-coloured paper-wrapped box. This houses a 50ml tasting bottle, wooden bottle stopper, and brand booklet.

• Shoulder box structure (paper-wrapped rigid board)
• Embossed logo
• 2 Magnetic closures
• Natural cork inner fitment with a striking appeal
