IPL Packaging recently produced a fun and quirky gift pack solution for Glenmorangie. This project pays tribute to the Scottish whisky brand’s beloved symbol – the giraffe. This majestic animal, with its extraordinary height, has long been celebrated as the unofficial mascot of Glenmorangie – perfectly illustrating the towering stature of the distillery’s famed stills.
The uncharacteristically high stills are the tallest in Scotland and are said to create a lighter spirit with more space for taste and aroma. The stills have exposed Glenmorangie’s spirit to an exceptional amount of copper for 175 years. This is said to remove the heaviest and oiliest flavours, as well as to elevate and enhance the whisky’s fruity qualities.
New gift packaging for Glenmorangie whisky
The bright ochre (often referred to as ‘orangie’) metal packaging solution was designed and developed by IPL’s in-house design team. Award-winning United Kingdom design agency, Butterfly Cannon, provided the beautiful artwork. The pack carries an embossed giraffe pattern on its sides, along with the Glenmorangie brand name and patches of embossed varnish.
A die-cut giraffe patch pattern on the front lid lends the packaging an eye-catching textural element. It also serves an enticing glimpse of the product encased within – an original Glenmorangie 10-year-old single malt. For an added element of quirkiness, the reverse of the pack depicts an image of the giraffe standing beside a Glenmorangie still. The tin’s push closure lid can be completely removed from the rest of the pack.
The giraffe holds symbolic value for the distillery
Glenmorangie’s iconic giraffe symbol can be seen in many places around the Highland Distillery. Sharp-eyed visitors may even spot its silhouette in a stained glass window in the still house. Glenmorangie recently channeled its love for this animal by pioneering a three-year partnership with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.
Although having gone largely unnoticed, numbers of giraffes have dropped by nearly 30% since the 1980s. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) designates the giraffe as ‘vulnerable,’ with three of the nine recognised subspecies as ‘endangered’ or ‘critically endangered.’
This new two-pronged global conservation partnership by the Glenmorangie Distillery will support efforts to protect giraffes, both in the African wild and by providing a habitat for the animals at Edinburgh Zoo, which will play a vital role in safeguarding their future.
